The Leadership Competencies Assessment (LCA)™

Providing a quick snapshot of how well leadership competencies align with your organization’s culture profile.

leadership competencies assessment

Overview

The Leadership Competencies Assessment (LCA)™ is an abbreviated version of The Management Skills Assessment Instrument (MSAI)™ typically taken in conjunction with The Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument (OCAI)™ to provide a real-time comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of leadership’s competencies with your organization’s culture profile.

WHAT THE LCA MEASURES

Similar to the OCAI™, the LCA™ is based on the Competing Values Framework (CVF)™, named as one of the Top 40 Frameworks in the history of business. The LCA™ is a self-assessment composed of eight categories of questions comprised of four alternatives each. The assessment produces a map of your leadership competencies based on factors that research has shown predict leadership success.

LCA ASSESSMENT PROCESS

How do I take the LCA™?

The LCA™ is administered via our online survey platform for a fee. Email our LCA product director at [email protected] to get started! The LCA requires each respondent to rate themselves by dividing 100 points among four descriptors in each of 8 questions. You will first rate your current level of leadership competencies (Now) and then assess yourself again in terms of what competencies you aspire to develop (Desired).

How do I interpret the LCA™ results?

Along with the OCAI™, LCA™ results are mapped on the four quadrants of the Competing Values Framework (CVF)™. In evaluating your results chart, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are the greatest score differences between my Now and Desired profiles?
  • How do my current and desired competency profiles compare to the organizational culture? How do they compare with the LCA profile of your organization or subgroup?
  • In which quadrant is my Desired profile most dominant? In which is it least?

How do I improve my competencies?

Once you’ve identified the areas in which you need to focus to enhance your leadership competencies and more strongly align with your organization’s preferred culture, it’s time to put a development plan in place.

HOW THE LCA ENABLES CULTURE CHANGE

Our research has shown that any organizational culture change initiative must always take into account leadership, and how well the competencies of your leaders align with the direction you want your culture to go. The LCA™ combined with the OCAI™ provides a real-time analysis of and visibility to organizational culture and leadership competency alignment or congruence to determine the next steps for culture change. To find out the culture of your organization, email us [email protected]. Learn more about the OCAI™ here.
